To start, you want to dice up the onions and add them to a frying pan with the butter. Turn the heat up to medium low and start to cook the onions.
Caramelizing onions takes about an hour. About 30 minutes in, sprinkle the sugar over the onions and mix it in. This will help with the caramelization process
Make sure you are stirring constantly because you don't want the onions on the bottom to burn.
Once the onions are done, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, worcestershire sauce, chopped chives and salt and pepper.
Add in the onions and mix.
Serve with potato chips and garnish with extra chives.
