Brown Butter Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats are a peanut butter lover's dream. The rich, sweet and salty flavor shines through with a perfect crispy texture in every single bite. The secret here is the browned butter, it adds SO MUCH flavor. Not only are these a hit at parties, but it also is super kid friendly.
I think we can all agree that Rice Krispie treats were probably one of our favorite snacks growing up. I mean I know it was at least for me! I love the sweet flavor paired with the crispy bite you get in every single time. There is just something special about this snack that makes you think right back to the days that were easy with minimal responsibilities, am I right?
I knew I needed to add peanut butter to my recipe. Why you might ask? Well, because I am simply obsessed with peanut butter, like deeply obsessed. This treat is like all of my obsessions combined into one and whenever I make a batch, I seriously can't stop eating them.
Ingredients:
- Rice Krispie cereal
- marshmallows
- peanut butter
- unsalted butter
Kitchen Appliances:
The Steps
In a skillet, add the butter and melt it on medium low heat. Keeping the burner at a medium low heat, brown the butter. Make sure it is not turned up too high or the butter will burn which will ruin the flavor. Add the peanut butter and stir constantly. The peanut butter will melt into the butter. Once a smooth and creamy texture is acquired, add in the marshmallows. Mix the marshmallows until they melt into the peanut butter.
Add the Rice Krispies and mix until completely coated. In a casserole dish lined with parchment paper, add the coated Rice Krispies into the casserole dish and evenly form the mixture to the dish. Place in the fridge for at least one hour so that they can harden and then evenly cut the Rice Krispie treats into squares.
If I don't eat peanut butter, can I still use this recipe and just omit the peanut butter?
Yes! That would work perfectly fine! The brown butter would really shine through in that case and you would get an absolutely delicious rich flavor.
