- Step 4: Once the sandwiches are assembled, slice the crust off of each sandwich. You are then going to vertically cut each sandwich into four equal pieces or cut diagonally in half into small triangles. Assemble your finger sandwiches on a plate and serve or save for later.
Hint: for the best quality sandwich, use fresh slices of bread. I typically like to try and find a sandwich bread that is on the fluffier side, especially when making in advance because when stored correctly, you don't lose the fluffiness of the bread when its time to serve the finger sandwiches.
Substitutions
- Bread - use gluten free bread instead of white bread to make this recipe gluten free
- Sandwich filling - use any sandwich filling flavor preferred, the ones I have included are suggestions based on my favorites
- Vegetarian - only serve the egg salad and cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches
Variations
- Pumpernickel - replace white bread with pumpernickel bread for some fancy and elevated sandwiches

- Kid friendly - make some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to add to the spread for any kids present at the event these finger sandwiches are being served at
Equipment
To make these recipes, you will need three medium mixing bowls and a mixing spoon. A sharp knife or sharp serrated knife and cutting board are also helpful. To arrange the finger sandwiches, it is helpful to have a charcuterie board.
Storage
Storage is the most important part because when making the sandwiches ahead of time, we want to keep them as fresh as possible. It is important to make sure the sandwiches are being stores in an airtight container so that the bread does not become stale from the air. They can also be stored in a resealable plastic bag, but it is important to make sure no air gets trapped in the bag. If you are only making the sandwiches a couple hours in advance, prepare your presentation of the sandwiches and cover with plastic wrap to keep the sandwiches fresh.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.
Top Tip
For the freshest option, make the filling to the finger sandwiches ahead of time and assemble the sandwiches right before serving.
