Ingredients:
- Rice Krispie cereal
- butter
- peanut butter
- marshmallows
- chocolate chips
- Reese's
Kitchen Appliances:
- square 9x9 inch baking dish
- skillet
The Steps:
- Line a square 9x9 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- On the stove, melt a stick of butter on medium low heat. You want to make sure you keep the butter moving with a rubber spatula until the butter browns. This prevents it from burning.
- Once the butter has browned, add in the peanut butter and cook until melted. Add in the marshmallows and continue to cook until melted.
- Add in the rice krispie cereal and mix until all of the pieces are covered in the peanut butter marshmallow mixture.
- Spread the rice krispies evenly in the baking dish.
- Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. Microwave for 30 seconds and mix. Then microwave 10 seconds at a time, mixing after every ten seconds until melted. Spread the chocolate on top of the rice krispie treats.
- Top with chopped up Reese's.
- Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Remove from the fridge, cut and serve.
FAQ's
How do I melt chocolate chips?
Microwave the chocolate chips for 30 seconds and mix. Then microwave 10 seconds at a time, mixing after every ten seconds until melted. You can also use a double boiler to melt if you choose to!What does browning the butter do?
It adds a richness to the dish that you don't get by just melting butter. Just a tip, when browning the butter, make sure you are either constantly stirring the butter or keeping it moving in some way so that it does not burn! This should be a slow process and if the butter burns, it will destroy that rich flavor. What are some other chocolate peanut butter recipes I could try?

I want to make this for a church potluck, so I want to make a large batch, but wondering if the 2X still fits in the 9x9? Or if I should go 13x9 for that? And what about the 3X? Tips on pan size?
thebutteredgnocchi says
I would definitely suggest using a bigger pan if doubling or tripling the recipe! That will allow you to get more pieces to share. If you use the 9x9 still they would just be thicker.
