Brown Butter Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies. Soft in the middle, crispy around the edges and stuffed with melty chocolate chips, nutty hints from the tahini and richness from the browned butter. I highly suggest indulging in these while they are still warm with a cold glass of milk on the side. I swear, I dream about that first bite of a warm, melty chocolate chip cookie, it is divine. In my opinion, cookies are never a bad idea.
Let's be honest, chocolate chip cookies are perfection in every way possible. I am a total believer that a scent can change someone's mood instantly. Insert the scent of fresh chocolate chip cookies baking away in the oven on a cozy afternoon. Talk about some happy, relaxing vibes, am I right?
I have always love a classic chocolate chip cookie. Add in the tahini and brown butter though and oh my goodness, talk about the perfect way to elevate a recipe. I have fallen in love with adding brown butter to my desserts. The extra flavor you get from such a simple task is wonderful.
Ingredients:
- 2 sticks butter
- sugar
- eggs
- tahini
- brown sugar
- vanilla
- flour
- baking soda
- baking powder
- kosher salt
- semi sweet chocolate chips
Kitchen Appliances:
- KitchenAid Mixer
- baking sheet
- small sauce pan
- cookie scoop
- cooling rack
The Steps:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add 1 stick of butter to a small sauce pan on medium low heat. Cook until butter browns stirring often. Add the brown butter to a bowl and chill in the fridge for 5-10 minutes until it cools and slightly begins to harden. If you let it harden too much, microwave it about 10 minutes to soften. Add brown butter and additional stick of softened butter to the mixing bowl. Add in sugar. Mix until the texture is creamy. Add in eggs while mixing on low. Add in tahini. Mix again. Add in brown sugar and vanilla. Mix until completely combined.
In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and kosher salt. While mixing on low, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Fold in the chocolate chips. Scoop about 2 tablespoon of the dough onto the baking sheet. Repeat until all of the dough is scooped out. Bake 13-15 minutes. Remove cookies from the baking sheet immediately to a cool rack. Allow to cool at least 5 minutes before serving.
What is tahini?
Excellent question! I actually just learned about the wonderful world of tahini about a year ago. It is basically sesame seed butter. The flavor is unreal! If you love sesame seeds, you are going to love this stuff! One tip though, the good stuff is all the way at the bottom of the jar, so make sure you scoop from the bottom!
Why do you add brown butter?
Brown butter adds a ton of flavor. The simple extra step adds rich hints that you don't get with regular butter. Be careful not to burn the butter though, that is not a fun flavor!
