This puff pastry with nutella and strawberries recipe only requires 6 simple ingredients and about 20 minutes of time. This easy dessert recipe is one kids and toddlers love because these chocolate hazelnut pastries are basically elevated Pop tarts.

This easy recipe is a great breakfast or dessert recipe to make year round. It is great to make during the summer months when strawberries are in season. This nutella puff pastry recipe can also be great around the holidays as a yummy option for Christmas brunch or Thanksgiving breakfast.
This was inspired by my Vanilla Sour Cream Cake with Strawberry Frosting on this site, and pairs well with these Cinnamon Brown Sugar Pancakes.

Ingredients
Store bought puff pastry sheets with an egg wash can be used to make the flaky pastry. Spread on top is creamy nutella and fresh strawberries. This combination will remind you of a chocolate covered strawberry. There is then a glaze made of confectioners sugar and water drizzle over the dessert. This is the best way to add a little extra sweetness to the dessert.

- store-bought puff pastry sheets
- Nutella
- fresh strawberries
- water
- confectioners sugar
- egg
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 430 degrees. Let the sheets of puff pastry thaw to room temperature. Using a sharp knife, slice both sheets into thirds along the folds. Cut each third in half to make a rectangle. Use 6 pieces as the base and take the other six and cut out a rectangle in the middle to make a frame.

- Step 2: Place the frame along the edges of each base and push down lightly so they form together. Place the pastries on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Crack an egg into a bowl and whisk. Using a basting brush, baste the entirety of each pastry. This egg wash will help the pastry cook. Bake your pastries for about 10 minutes or until they begin to brown.

- Step 3: Place the Nutella in a microwave safe bowl and microwave about 20 seconds to make it more spreadable. Spread the Nutella in the middle of the pastry on the inside of the frame.

- Step 4: Slice the strawberries and place them over the Nutella. In a bowl combine the water and powdered sugar and drizzle that over the top. Serve and enjoy.
Hint: let the pastries sit a minute before spreading the Nutella. You will notice they are very puffy when they first come out but they do settle in and sink a little.

Top Tip
Puff pastry bakes very quickly so make sure you keep a close eye on it. You want the puff pastry to bake to a perfect golden brown color. Also make sure the puff pastry is cold when going into the preheated oven. This assures you have an extra flaky puff pastry which is the best part of this recipe.
FAQ
You can make homemade puff pastry. It is not the easiest process though which is why this recipe uses store-bought puff pastry from the grocery store.
For this egg wash recipe, all you have to do is whisk one egg. You then want to baste the beaten egg onto the puff pastry before baking.
This is not necessary. As long as you are able to cut the puff pastry to the correct size, nothing else needs to be done prior to baking outside of the egg wash.
