These easy Philly cheesesteak sliders are quick and simple to assemble and ready to feed a crowd. Taking all of the best flavors from authentic Philly cheesesteaks and putting them into handheld sliders not only makes for a great appetizer but can also be an option for an easy weeknight dinner.

These Philly sliders are the perfect appetizer to make and enjoy on football Sunday, especially for the big game day in February. They are also a great appetizer recipe to make for guests at birthday parties, holiday parties and can also be a great appetizer to serve for 4th of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas!
This was inspired by my Grilled Steak Quesadilla on this site, and pairs well with these parmesan truffle fries.

Ingredients
The roll in these slides are classic Hawaiian rolls. Not only do they provide excellent flavor but they also are easy to assemble and cut up once done. Shaved steak or frozen chipped steak will provide the quickest and also most cost effective option for the meat. Thinly sliced or shaved ribeye steak is also a great option.
The sauteed onions and green peppers add texture and a fresh veggie flavor and the garlic, lemon juice and mayonnaise garlic aioli mixtures adds a unique flavor. For buttery rolls, add a little garlic butter on top of the rolls prior to baking.
The most important part of this recipe is selecting the correct cheese. For an authentic philly cheesesteak, use Cooper Sharp American cheese. Choosing another brand American cheese is fine but will alter results. A lot of people from the Philly area might also prefer cheez whiz sauce so this is an option as well.

Instructions

- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice onion and bell pepper. Heat up a large skillet on medium-high heat. Add frozen chipped steak. As the meat cooks, user a spatula to chop up the meat. Remove the steak from the pan.

2. Step 2: Cook the onion and bell pepper on medium heat until tender. Add a little olive oil when cooking if necessary. Remove from the heat and set aside. Mix mayonnaise, lemon juice and minced garlic in a small bowl. Melt butter with the rest of the minced garlic and add chopped parsley.

3. Step 3: Slice the slider rolls in half. When doing this, keep the rolls attached as one sheet. There should be a top sheet and a bottom sheet of rolls when sliced correctly. Place the bottom layer sheet of rolls into a large casserole dish. Spread the garlic aioli evenly on the bottom half of the rolls. Spread cooked steak evenly on top of the aioli.

4. Step 4: On top of the steak, spread the sautéed onions and bell peppers. Add the slices of cheese evenly on top. Spread any extra garlic aioli on the top sheet of slider rolls before placing the sheet on top of the cheese. Spread the melted butter with garlic and parsley on the tops of the rolls. Bake about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese melts and the buns become slightly golden brown.
Hint: if you find that the center of the sliders are not cooking, cover the casserole dish with tin foil in the oven. This will prevent the slider rolls from continuing to brown and harden but will help cook the center of the sliders.
Substitutions
- Cheese - replace with gooey provolone cheese or cheese whiz if you cannot find Cooper Sharp cheese. Another brand American cheese can be used as well
- Bun - use gluten free slider buns instead of Hawaiian sliders buns to make this gluten free
- Vegetarian - the chipped steak can be replaced with a plant based meat to make this recipe vegetarian
- Garlic - if you don't have any fresh garlic on hand you can substitute with garlic powder
Variations
- Spicy - add chili pepper flakes while cooking to imbue heat into the dish, or replace the bell peppers with jalapeño peppers
- Deluxe - add onion rings or french fries to your cheesesteak to really add some flavor and texture, you can also add them on the side
- Kid friendly - make some sliders with just meat and cheese and serve with ketchup
- Cheeseburger - make this recipe with ground beef and cheeseburger flavors for a classic cheeseburger slider

Equipment
To create this recipe, use a large cast iron skillet or frying pan for the best results. The meat and vegetables can also be cooked on any flat top surface such as a Blackstone or an indoor electric griddle. A large casserole dish is also needed. A casserole dish 9x13 or larger will work good.
A sharp serrated knife and cutting board is needed to cut the sliders apart after cooking. A sharp chef's knife is also needed to slice the onions and peppers.
How to Store Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-5 days. You can also store them in the casserole dish they were baked in covered with aluminum foil for up to 3 days. To reheat with best results preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake until warm (about 5 minutes). You can also microwave them until warm (about 1 minute).
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing unless they are frozen before cooking. Ingredients can be frozen prior to cooking in their own freezer safe containers for up to 2 months.
Top tip
If using fresh steak, such as a ribeye steak, freeze the steak for at least one hour prior to slicing. This will harden the steak and make it much easier for you to slice the steak into very thin slices.
