Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are cheesy, stuffed with delicious chipped steak, caramelized onions and green peppers all sandwiched between delicious Hawaiian rolls. There is also a little garlic aioli and a coating of garlic butter on the buns for an extra kick of flavor. This recipe takes an authentic cheesesteak and turns it into delicious little sandwiches that everyone will enjoy.
These easy Philly cheesesteak sliders are the perfect appetizer to make and enjoy on football Sunday, especially for the big game day in February. They are also a great appetizer recipe to make for guests at birthday parties, holiday parties and can also be a great appetizer to serve for 4th of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas!
This was inspired by my Grilled Steak Quesadilla on this site, and pairs well with these Mac and Cheese Bites.

Ingredients

- Frozen Chipped Steak
- Yellow Onion
- Green Bell Pepper
- Mayonnaise
- Fresh Garlic Clove
- Lemon Juice
- American Cheese or Cooper Sharp Cheese
- Butter
- Fresh Parsley
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice onion and bell pepper. Heat up a large skillet on medium-high heat. Add frozen chipped steak. As the meat cooks, user a spatula to chop up the meat. Remove the steak from the pan.
Cook the onion and bell pepper in the same pan the meat was cooked in until tender. Add a little olive oil when cooking if necessary. Remove from the heat and set aside. Mix mayonnaise, lemon juice and minced garlic in a small bowl. Melt butter with the rest of the minced garlic and add chopped parsley.
Slice the slider rolls in half. When doing this, keep the rolls attached as one sheet. There should be a top sheet and a bottom sheet of rolls when sliced correctly. Place the bottom layer sheet of rolls into a large casserole dish. Spread the garlic aioli evenly on the bottom sheet of slider rolls. Spread cooked steak evenly on top of the aioli.
On top of the steak, spread the cooked onions and bell peppers. Add the slices of cheese evenly on top. Spread any extra garlic aioli on the top sheet of slider rolls before placing the sheet on top of the cheese. Spread the melted butter with garlic and parsley on the tops of the rolls. Bake about 10-12 minutes or until the cheese melts and the buns become slightly toasted.
Hint: use a microplane to shave your garlic. This makes the process much faster than mincing with a knife and also adds a lot of extra garlic flavor to the dish.
Substitutions
- Steak - frozen chipped steak, use fresh chipped steak or thin slices of skirt steak, New York strip steak or ribeye steak
- Bun - use gluten free slider buns instead of Hawaiian sliders buns to make this gluten free
- Vegetarian - the chipped steak can be replaced with a plant based meat to make this recipe vegetarian
- Garlic - if you don't have any fresh garlic on hand you can substitute with garlic powder
Variations
- Spicy - add chili pepper flakes while cooking to imbue heat into the dish, or replace the bell peppers with jalapeño peppers
- Deluxe - add onion rings or french fries to your cheesesteak to really add some flavor and texture, you can also add them on the side
- Kid friendly - make some sliders with just meat and cheese and serve with ketchup
- Garlic Bread - make this recipe with garlic bread to add some extra crisp and flavor

Equipment
To create this recipe, use a large cast iron skillet for the best results. The meat and vegetables can also be cooked on any flat top surface such as a Blackstone or an indoor electric griddle. A large casserole dish is also needed. A 9x13 inch casserole dish is the best size to make sure you fit all of the slider rolls. They will be a little snug in this size casserole dish but should fit fine depending on how many sliders you are making.
It is ok to use a regular skillet as well. You will cook the meat and vegetables the same way no matter what type of skillet or flat top you use.
Storage
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3-5 days. You can also store them in the casserole dish they were baked in covered with aluminum foil for up to 3 days. To reheat with best results preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake until warm (about 5 minutes). You can also microwave them until warm (about 1 minute).
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing unless they are frozen before cooking.
Top tip
Use a sharp knife to cut the sliders apart after cooking. This will avoid some pieces losing cheese or veggies.
FAQ
It absolutely can! Cheese whiz is a very popular cheese that is used in a Philly cheesesteak. It really comes down to being a preference thing when choosing the correct cheese. Our cheese of choice is cooper sharp.
Hawaiian sweet rolls produce the best flavor with this recipe. White bread slider rolls can be used for this recipe as well.
French fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, potato chips, mozzarella sticks, tater tots, the great options for delicious sides with this dish are endless and to make it more fun, most of them are fried.
