Pork Roll Eggs Benedict with Paprika.ย Perfectly poached eggs sitting on a crisp slice of pork roll all on top of a toasted English muffin topped with a lemony, rich hollandaise with a sprinkle of smokey paprika.ย This Eggs Benedict recipe takes Sunday brunch to a whole new level.ย This savory treat is so decadent and divine and can easily put a satisfied smile on anyone's face.
Eggs Benedict has such a special place in my heart.ย I feel so sophisticated when I order it and it is my typical diner go to! I didn't fall in love with all things eggs benedict until my post college years though and boy, was I missing out!ย I have to say, I am kind of picky about my hollandaise though!ย I love strong, bold flavors so that is really what I tend to look for in a good hollandaise sauce.
The secret to the flavor in my hollandaise is 100% the lemon juice.ย It adds that acidic bite that is just so necessary and totally compliments the rest of the dish perfectly.
Ingredients:
- eggs
- egg yolks
- lemon juiceย
- butter
- paprika
- pork roll
- english muffin
- distilled vinegar
Kitchen Appliances:
- boiling pot
- double boiler
- toaster
The Steps:
Cook your pork roll on medium heat and toast your english muffin.
To make the hollandaise
Melt butter in the microwave.ย Whisk the egg yolks together in the top portion of the double boiler.ย On medium low heat, whisk eggs quickly and constantly until they begin to thicken.ย Once the butter is cooled to almost room temperature but is still in liquid form, begin to very slowly add in the butter to the eggs, whisking constantly.ย It is very important that the butter is cooled, poured in very slowly and that you are whisking constantly, otherwise the eggs will begin to cook and you will not have a smooth sauce.ย Once all of the butter is added, slowly start to add in the lemon juice while continuing to whisk constantly.ย Once the hollandaise is a medium thickness, you can remove from the double boiler.
To poach your egg
Begin to bring water to a boil in a boiling pot.ย Right before the water is about to start boiling, add in your vinegar.ย Begin to swirl the water in the pot to create a whirlpool effect.ย Carefully drop the cracked egg into the while the water is swirling.ย This helps wrap the egg white around the yolk.ย Turn the heat off and cover the pot.ย Let the eggs sit about 3-5 minutes before removing.
To assemble your Eggs Benedict
Place the english muffin halves on a plate.ย Top with pork roll.ย Carefully place your poached eggs on top of the pork roll.ย Drizzle the hollandaise on top of each egg.ย Sprinkle with paprika and serve immediately.
Are there easier ways to make hollandaise?
I have seen people use a blender which is a much easier way.ย I personally have found that I get a better and more desired texture when I make it over a double boiler though, I have a lot more control.
What if I don't like pork roll?
This is the question my father would ask.ย Technically, a traditional Eggs Benedict is made with Canadian Bacon which is very similar to pork roll.ย I personally like pork roll better but it can be easily replaced.ย I have also used both breakfast sausage and bacon to change it up sometimes, both are delicious!
