It can also be a great appetizer for the holidays, especially when served on Thanksgiving or Christmas due to its cozy comfort food vibes.

Ingredients
Air fried, golden brown popcorn chicken and mini waffles make up the bulk of this recipe and are used to assemble this mini chicken and waffle bite recipe. The popcorn chicken is then tossed in hot honey to add flavor.

Instructions

- Step 1: Air fry popcorn chicken at 370 degrees for 9-10 minutes flipping halfway through.

- Step 2: Place popcorn chicken in a medium bowl. Add hot honey and toss until chicken is coated.

- Step 3: Toast mini waffles. Add popcorn chicken pieces onto waffles.

- Step 4: Serve immediately with extra hot honey or maple syrup dipping sauce or save for later.
Hint: add additional hot honey on top of the chicken prior to serving to make sure flavor is maximized. This can be done with a basting brush.
Substitutions
- Popcorn Chicken - homemade fried chicken bites can also be used if you prefer. Chicken nuggets can also be used instead of popcorn chicken
- Waffles - use gluten free waffles for a gluten free version of this recipe
- Vegetarian - use plant based popcorn chicken or plant based chicken nuggets to make this recipe meat free

- Maple Syrup Chicken and Waffles - toss the chicken in maple syrup for a regular chicken and waffles version
- Large - use chicken tenders or fried chicken breast and regular-size waffles or Belgian waffles from a hot waffle iron for a larger version of this recipe

How to Store Hot Honey Chicken and Waffles
Store the leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container or a resealable bag for up to 3-5 days. Reheat in the air fryer or oven prior to serving.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing due to the hot honey.
Top Tip
If you are frying chicken fresh, you want to create a seasoned flour mixture along with an egg wash to dredge the chicken in. The chicken breasts can also be marinaded in a buttermilk mixture overnight to add moisture. After coating with the flour mixture, the chicken can be fried in vegetable oil until a crispy chicken texture is achieved.
FAQ
You can make a sauce with hot honey and melted butter to thin out the hot honey before tossing the chicken in it.
