Ingredients
Puff pastry basted with an egg wash makes up the pastry twist portion of this recipe. The pastry is stuffed with shredded mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce prior to baking. The pizza twists are then topped with mini pepperoni rounding out this list of simple ingredients.

- puff pastry
- mozzarella cheese
- pizza sauce
- mini pepperoni
- egg
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Using a rolling pin, roll out the pastry dough until dough is pliable and surface area of the puff pastry dough is a little larger. Shred mozzarella cheese.

- Step 2: Spread pizza sauce on one half of the pastry dough. Spread mozzarella cheese over pizza sauce. Fold the half of the pastry dough with no sauce or cheese over the cheese and sauce.

- Step 3: Using a pizza cutter, slice the puff pastry into 1 inch strips. Try to slice the pieces even for best results. Whisk an egg. Baste the tops of the puff pastry slices with egg wash.

- Step 4: Pick up each puff pastry slice and twist 3-4 times. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Top each twist with additional mozzarella cheese. Bake 18-20 minutes until cheese is melted and puff pastry is golden brown. Serve immediately or save for later.
Hint: instead of buying pre shredded cheese, shred your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese from the grocery store has a preservative film on it that causes it to take longer to melt and also causes it to not melt evenly.

FAQ
Yes, gluten free puff pastry can be used to make this recipe gluten free.
If you do not have pizza sauce, use tomato sauce or marinara sauce.
Yes, please note this will change the baking time and also the texture of the finished result. You will not have as much of a flaky crust result that you get with a puff pastry sheet. I also would suggest omitting the egg wash in this case.
