The pork and vegetable mixture is simple, but packs this dish with flavor and when paired with the spicy Sriracha beef broth, creates the perfect marriage of Asian inspired flavors.
Nate's favorite meal is 100% pork dumplings. He LOVES them! When I really started getting into cooking, it was his number one request. Normally, we have our dumplings with a dipping sauce that isn't always necessarily the healthiest. It is a delicious way to enjoy dumplings, but we wanted to find a way to twist one of our favorite recipes to be a little lighter for weeknight dinners. So naturally, I turned it into a mini soup, because if there is another meal we absolutely love, its a warm soup meal. Dumplings and soup? The combination could not get any better!
Ingredients:
- ground pork
- green onions
- bok choy
- salt and pepper
- dumpling wrappers
- sesame oil
- beef broth
- chili garlic hot sauce
- Sriracha sauce
- sesame seeds and extra green onions to garnish
Kitchen Appliances:
The Steps:
Chop the bok choy and dice the green onion. Dice towards the bottom of the green onion as well where it is more white in color. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, chopped bok choy, diced green onions and salt and pepper. Place a dumpling wrapped on a plate and add about 2 teaspoon of pork picture in the center. Dip one finger in water and wet the perimeter of the wrapper. Fold the perimeter of the wrapper in towards the center until it is closed. Repeat these steps until all of the pork is used.
In a skillet heat up sesame oil. Place the dumplings in the oil and allow them to cook 5-8 minutes until the bottoms brown. Add ยผ cup of water into the pan and cover immediately. Allow the dumplings to steam for ten minutes. While the dumplings are steaming, add beef broth, chili garlic sauce and Sriracha sauce into a sauce pan. Mix well. Allow the broth to simmer on medium low for about 5-8 minutes until warm.
Remove dumplings from the pan into a bowl. Pour the broth on top of the dumplings. Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top of the dumplings as a garnish. Serve immediately.
What if I don't eat red meat? Can I replace the pork with chicken in the dumplings?
Yes! It will still be just as delicious! When it comes to the beef broth, I have not tried it with chicken broth personally but I am sure it would still be delicious! Vegetable broth could also be a great choice!
What if I want to dip the dumplings in a sauce? Do I have to use the broth?
No absolutely not! The broth just offers a lighter option! Believe me, we still love our dumplings in sauce. We love to combine soy sauce with some sweet thai chili sauce to dip, it is absolutely delicious!
