This was inspired by my hot honey ranch recipe on this site, and pairs well with this white chicken enchiladas with cream cheese recipe.

Ingredients
The base of this simple recipe is sour cream and fresh avocado. Using fresh avocado is very important for the fresh, natural flavor and creaminess of the dish. Lime juice and buttermilk are then added both for flavor and texture. The sauce is finished up with ranch seasoning, garlic powder and fresh dill to round out the zesty flavor.
- sour cream
- avocado
- lime
- garlic powder
- ranch seasoning
- fresh dill
- buttermilk
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- Step 1: In a blender, add sour cream. Cut avocado in half, remove the skin and pit. Add half of the avocado into the blender. Blend together until creamy.
- Step 2: Squeeze fresh lime juice into the blender. Add in buttermilk. Blend until combined.
- Step 3: Chop up fresh dill. Add dill to the blender. Add in ranch seasoning and garlic powder.
- Step 4: Mix until combined. Serve immediately or save for later.
Hint: To make sure your avocado is ripe so you get a nice and smooth avocado puree when it is added to the sauce, gently squeeze the avocado. When squeezing the avocado, it should give slightly but will not feel overly mushy. The color of the skin can also indicate ripeness since it begins to darken when ripe.
Substitutions
- Avocado - if you cannot find a ripe avocado, use a pre made guacamole, this may alter the flavor slightly depending on seasonings but will still give an avocado purée texture
- Sour Cream - use mayonnaise if sour cream is not available
- Lime - instead of a fresh squeezed lime, use lime or lemon juice concentrate or another citrus fruit juice, lemon and lime are the best options
Variations
- Regular - omit avocado for a regular buttermilk ranch recipe
- Hot Honey - add hot honey instead of avocado for a spicy flavor kick
- Southwestern Ranch - change up the seasonings for a southwestern flavor combination
