Ingredients
This recipe requires naan bread or flatbread pizza crust for the base of the pizza. Pizza sauce is the best option for the sauce but can be changed up depending on preference. Fresh shredded mozzarella cheese will give the best results for the cheese layer. At that point you can add your favorite flatbread toppings for pizza or traditional toppings of choice.

- naan bread
- pizza sauce
- whole milk mozzarella cheese
- additional toppings if desired
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

- Step 1: Place the pizza stone on the grill and heat the grill up on high. Shred the mozzarella cheese.

- Step 2: Spread the pizza sauce on the naan bread. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and any other toppings preferred.

- Step 3: Place the pizza on the pizza stone and close the lid of the grill.

- Step 4: Cook pizza about 2-3 minutes or until the naan is crisp and golden brown and the cheese is melted. Keep a close eye on the pizza, it takes less time to bake on the grill than in a traditional oven. Allow to cool about 3 minutes before serving.
Hint: use a pizza peel to take the pizza on and off the pizza stone. The pizza stone will be extremely hot so make sure you do not touch it or go near it with your hands.
Substitutions
- Naan Bread - replace with any other pre-made pizza dough. Raw dough can also be used but please note this may change the cooking time slightly. Any flatbread pizza crusts you find in the store can also be used
- Pizza Sauce - use pesto sauce or Alfredo sauce to change the flavors of this pizza
- Cheese - use fresh mozzarella for a fresher flavor
- Toppings - mix and match toppings however you prefer. You can add meat, fresh vegetables, different cheeses, etc.
Variations
- BBQ Chicken Flatbread Pizza - use barbecue sauce as the sauce and add chicken as a topping for an extra burst of flavor
- Spicy - sprinkle red pepper flakes or spicy red peppers on top for a little heat in the pizza
- Kid friendly - serve plain pizza with a side of french fries
- Regular Pizza - instead of making a flatbread recipe, use a pizza dough recipe to make regular pizzas with tomato sauce. This is a great way to change up the recipe, still get a crispy crust and still use the grill to get that authentic grilling flavor
Equipment
A pizza stone and a gas grill are the two main necessities to create this recipe. A blackstone grill can also be used without a pizza stone. It is also helpful to have a pizza peel or a large spatula. A cutting board and pizza cutter are also helpful.
Storage
Store the leftover pizza wrapped in tin foil in the fridge. Good for 4-6 days. Leftover flatbread pizza bread can be wrapped in plastic wrap or tin foil and placed in a bread box or in a bread cabinet for up to 2-3 days or until it starts to become stale.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.
Top tip
For a truly authentic smoky flavor, use a charcoal grill. This will give you a delicious pizza with tons of smoky flavor.
FAQ
To make a margarita pizza, you use fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh tomatoes and fresh basil. A drizzle of olive oil finishes this recipe perfectly.
Yes, typically with pellet grills, the temperature can be controlled with makes this process easier. On a regular smoker you just have to make sure you are regulating your temperature to make sure it is hot enough to cook the pizza.
The pizza can be grilled on the grill so you can get those signature grill marks only if you are using a pre-made and pre-cooked flatbread like naan bread. If you are using flatbread dough or traditional pizza dough that needs to cook as you make the pizza you will need to use a grill pan, baking sheet or pizza stone.
