This is the perfect sauce for summer barbecues. It is an excellent pairing for burgers and salads making it great to serve as a condiment at Memorial Day, Labor Day or July 4th weekend barbecues. It can also be a great recipe to serve as a condiment around the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. This simple sauce pairs well especially with turkey. It is also great to add to leftover turkey sandwiches the week after Thanksgiving.
This was inspired by my Copycat Yum Yum Sauce on this site and pairs well with my Bacon Jam Burger recipe and my French Onion Soup Burger recipe.

Ingredients
This recipe only requires 5 ingredients. It is a mayonnaise based sauce and that is where the creamy texture comes from. The bulk of the flavor comes from the tangy dijon mustard and there is an acidic element added from the lemon juice. The fresh garlic adds a burst of extra flavor that compliments the other flavors in the sauce perfectly and a little salt is added to really bring out all of the flavor in the sauce and let them shine.
- mayonnaise
- dijon mustard
- lemon juice
- garlic
- salt
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- Step 1: Add mayonnaise and dijon mustard to a small bowl. Mince the garlic.
- Step 2: Juice ½ lemon into the bowl. Add in minced garlic and salt.
- Step 3: Mix until combined.
- Step 4: Serve immediately or chill in the fridge.
Hint: use a mason jar to mix your sauce. To do this add all of the ingredients to a mason jar, seal the lid and shake. This will lessen the amount of dishes even more and also make it easier to store your sauce after mixing.
Substitutions
- Lemon - instead of juicing a fresh lemon, you can use lemon juice or lemon concentrate
- Garlic - use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic
- Mayonnaise - can be replaced with a lite mayonnaise or low fat mayonnaise
Variations
- Spicy - add a little hot sauce for a spicy dijonnaise sauce
- Garlic Aioli - remove the dijon mustard for a garlic aioli
- Zesty Sauce - a creamy sauce with zesty horseradish flavor for a twist on dijonnaise

How do I make mayonnaise for this recipe from scratch?
To make mayonnaise from scratch, add 1 cup of olive oil, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon dijon mustard, 2 tablespoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt to a mason jar. Blend with an immersion blender until emulsified and a mayonnaise texture forms. This homemade mayonnaise can then be used instead of storebought mayonnaise for the mayonnaise base for the homemade dijonaise sauce.
Equipment to make this tasty sauce
To make this recipe you will either need a small bowl or a mason jar. If making the mayonnaise from scratch, you will need an immersion blender. You will also need measuring cups and spoons, a lemon juicer and either a garlic crush, microplane or sharp knife and cutting board to mince the garlic.
Storage
Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Good for up to 2 weeks.
These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.
Top Tip
Use this sauce as a sauce for potato salad. The creamy flavor and texture pair perfectly with the ingredients in a potato salad and will really get your guest's taste buds going.
FAQ
This creamy dijon mustard sauce is an excellent dipping sauce for french fries, tater tots, chicken tenders, onion rings and so much more. It is also an excellent sauce to pour on top of pork chops, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, and so much more.
You can, but it is going to completely alter the flavor. This also would take away the dijon element which is one of the most important parts of this sauce so it is not suggested.
