Ingredients
For the hot dogs, you will get the best result with a good quality hot dog, such as all beef hot dogs. Sharp cheddar cheese is used as a the cheese layer and both the cheese and hots dogs are covered by the store-bought puff pastry. The eggs are used for the egg wash to assure you end up with golden brown flaky puff pastry. Toppings and condiments can vary depending on preference.
- hot dogs

See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and add parchment paper to a baking sheet. Slice cheddar cheese into ½ inch thick slices. Whisk the eggs together. Prep any toppings.
- Step 2: Place a slice of cheese on the parchment paper. Place a hot dog on top of the cheese. Remove the package of puff pastry from the freezer. Cut the puff pastry sheets into 3 equal pieces in the shape of a rectangle making sure that the pieces are longer than the length of the hot dogs.
- Step 3: Cover the hot dogs with the puff pastry sheets, gently pressing down along the sides to form the pastry sheet around the hot dog. Baste the tops of the puff pastry with the egg wash.
- Step 4: Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the sheet pan. Top with toppings and condiments of choice. Serve immediately or save for later.
Hint: let the cold puff pastry sit out about 5 minutes prior to using. If it is still frozen, it will not be pliable and form around the hot dogs. Letting it thaw slightly allows it to take the shape you want without it becoming too sticky. You do still want the puff pastry to be cold when going into the oven because this will help achieve a crispier texture.
Substitutions

Equipment
To make this recipe, you will need a sharp knife and cutting board and a large baking sheet. Parchment paper is also necessary to place on the baking sheet prior to adding the ingredients to avoid them sticking to the baking sheet.
How to Store a Puff Pastry Hot Dog
Store the leftover puff pastry hot dogs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.
Reheat in the air fryer or in the oven on 350 degrees until warm. Avoid using the microwave, this will cause the puff pastry to become mushy.
These ingredients do stand up well to freezing for up to 2 months.
Top Tip
Verify your oven is fully preheated to a high temperature, typically around 400°F (200°C) to assure your puff pastry puffs up and becomes golden brown. Also, avoid opening the oven door early, which can cause heat loss and prevent puff pastry from rising.
