See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

- Step 1: Slice the mozzarella cheese into ½ inch strips. Slice each strip into thirds.

- Step 2: Cut the prosciutto slices in half.

- Step 3: Place the slice of prosciutto on a flat surface. Add a piece of mozzarella to the end of the slice of prosciutto. Add a small basil leaf and a little drizzle of balsamic glaze on top of the mozzarella.

- Step 4: Wrap the prosciutto around the mozzarella, basil and balsamic glaze tightly. Serve immediately or save for later. Add a light drizzle of balsamic glaze on top of the dish prior to serving.
Hint: A little goes a long way with balsamic glaze. Drizzle in thin lines or small dots to decorate the dish without overpowering the delicate flavors of cheese and prosciutto.
Substitutions
- Cheese - for different types of cheese try burrata or fresh goat cheese for a creamier or tangier flavor profile. Fresh mozzarella balls can also be used for a different shape
- Balsamic Glaze - drizzle with basil-infused olive oil or a truffle oil instead of balsamic glaze to highlight the herbal notes subtly
- Vegetarian - swap out the prosciutto with tomato and serve with mozzarella resting on top
Variations
- Add Honey - a slight drizzle of honey alongside the balsamic glaze amplifies the sweet and savory balance
- Grilled Tomato - replace the prosciutto with grilled tomato for a grilled caprese salad

To make this recipe, you will need a sharp knife and cutting board. A serving platter is also helpful when serving to guests.
How to Store Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella
Store the assembled prosciutto wrapped mozzarella bites in an airtight container in the fridge. Good for 2-3 days.
These ingredients do stand up well to freezing prior to assembling for up to 2 months.
Top Tip
Handle the prosciutto gently; its delicate texture can tear if pulled too hard. Using slightly thicker slices can prevent this problem.
FAQ
Substitute mozzarella with a plant-based cheese alternative and replace prosciutto with thinly sliced roasted eggplant or smoked tempeh for a similar savory experience.
Regular balsamic vinegar is more acidic and watery, so it’s best reduced into a glaze or if you need to use it, drizzle it light and carefully.
Fresh basil is crucial for its flavor and texture; dried basil won’t provide the same brightness and may affect the overall taste.
