These simple 7 ingredient ham and cheese sliders are an excellent appetizer recipe for game day or the big game. These sliders only take 5 minutes to assemble and 15 minutes to bake making them an extremely simple and low maintenance appetizer recipe. Using just one pan to bake, you won't be left with many dishes to clean after they're done baking.
The secret that adds so much flavor to this ham and cheese Hawaiian roll sliders is adding dijon mustard and poppy seeds to the buttery mixture that is spread on the tops of the buns. Once baked, this mixture adds so much extra flavor to the sweet Hawaiian rolls.

These little ham and cheese sandwiches are a popular choice for a game day appetizer for football season when you are looking for a recipe that can be prepped ahead of time and don't take a lot of time to make. This recipe is also a great easy weeknight dinner option. These sliders can also be made ahead of time and packaged up as a lunch on the go option during a busy week.
This was inspired by my pepperoni pizza sliders on this site, and pairs well with this homemade potato chips or truffle fries.

Substitutions
- American cheese - instead of American cheese, use Swiss cheese to make ham and Swiss sliders. Cheddar cheese slices or Muenster cheese are also an option
- Slider Buns - use gluten free slider buns instead of white bread buns to make this gluten free
- Vegetarian - use plant based deli meat instead of ham
Variations
- Spicy - add hot sauce or chili pepper flakes with the mayonnaise to add heat into the sliders
- Chicken Bacon Ranch - add chicken bacon ranch flavors to the sliders for change up the flavors
- Pulled Pork - add pulled pork and coleslaw to the sliders

Equipment
To make this recipe, you will need a sharp serrated knife (bread knife) to slice the slider rolls. A small bowl and basting brush or pastry brush is needed to make the butter sauce in and then baste the slider rolls. A medium size casserole dish is also needed to bake the slider rolls in.
How to Store Ham and Cheese Sliders
Store leftover sliders in the fridge in an airtight container. Good for 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven or the air fryer before serving leftovers.
These ingredients do stand up well to freezing for up to 2 months.
Top Tip
Do not add too much of the butter mixture over the rolls. Adding too much of the melted butter can cause the rolls to get soggy. You want to add enough butter that your rolls bake evenly, flavor is added and so your rolls bake to a golden brown color.
FAQ
Yes, these sliders can be prepared in advance and baked later. They are a very easy recipe to prepare in advance. I do suggest to add the butter mixture immediately before baking rather than before storing so the rolls do not get soggy.
Dijon mustard is preferred for its smooth texture and balanced tang, but whole grain or spicy brown mustard can be used to vary the flavor profile.
While poppy seeds add a pleasant crunch and nutty flavor, you can omit or substitute them with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning for a different kick.
