Having grown up in the Philadelphia area and eating cheesesteaks for the past 20 years, I have compiled everything I have loved and learned to create the best creamy, cheesy cheesesteak mixture to use in a variety of recipes. These Philly cheesesteak bites are a simple way to use the signature flavors of a Philly cheesesteak in a fun and creative way that only requires 4 ingredients and 9 minutes of baking time.

This recipe is a great appetizer option to make for football Sunday game day and can also be a great app to make for the big game in February. It is also a great recipe to make for any party or occasion. Philly cheesesteaks bites are also an excellent option to make for a quick and easy lunch recipe and can also be a fun way to serve cheesesteaks to the kiddos for dinner if a traditional cheesesteak is a little too overwhelming.
This was inspired by my Philly cheesesteak panini recipe on this site, and pairs well with this easy buffalo chicken sliders recipe.

Ingredients
The cup base of this recipe is made out of pre-made Pillsbury biscuit dough. The cheesesteak mixture if made out of frozen chipped steak, Cooper Sharp American cheese and sautéed onions. Cooper Sharp American cheese is used because of how evenly it melts into a creamy texture and also its signature sharp flavor.

- pre-made biscuit dough
- frozen chipped steak
- Cooper Sharp American cheese
- onion
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions

- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Dice onion.

- Step 2: On medium heat in a small frying pan, sauté onion in a little olive oil until slightly caramelized. In a large frying pan or large skillet on medium-high heat cook frozen chipped steak. Chop up steak into small dice sized pieces as it cooks. Add onion into meat and mix in. Add slices of American cheese. Stir cheese into meat as it melts until a creamy texture is achieved, about 1-2 minutes.

- Step 3: Spray a muffin pan with cooking spray. Remove biscuit dough from package. Using your hands, carefully rip each biscuit in half by pulling apart the assembled layers. Form the biscuit dough halves into muffin pan in a cup shape.

- Step 4: Spoon cheesesteak mixture into each cup. Cut Cooper Sharp American cheese slices into thirds. Place a piece of cheese on top of each cheesesteak cup. Bake 9 minutes. Serve immediately or save for later.
Hint: when melting the cheese into the meat, make sure you are constantly moving the mixture around. If the cheese is directly on the heat for too long it will start to form a hard crust as it melts too much and will ruin the creamy texture of the melted cheese.

Equipment
To make this recipe, you will need a large frying pan or large skillet. A small frying pan is also needed to cook the onions and a sharp knife and cutting board is needed to cut the onion prior to cooking. A muffin pan is also needed to assemble and cook the cheesesteak cups.
How to Store Philly Cheesesteak Bites
Store leftover cheesesteak bites in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-5 days. Reheat in the microwave, oven or air fryer until warm prior to serving leftovers.
These ingredients do stand up well to freezing for up to 2 months.
Top Tip
For an extra crispy texture, replace the biscuit dough with puff pastry. Form the puff pastry into the muffin cups, fill with the cheesesteak mixture, baste the tops of the pastry with an egg wash and bake. This cheesesteak puff pastry appetizer will be similar to the biscuit dough one but can be a fun way to change the recipe up a little.
FAQ
Yes, you definitely have the option to add different veggies to the cheesesteak mixture. Bell pepper or green peppers are a popular addition and some people also love to add banana peppers. It is really up to individual preference.
You can leave the biscuit dough whole, but I do not suggest it. This will leave too much bread and doughy texture that will overwhelm the cheesesteak cups. Ripping it in half also assures that there is enough of the biscuit dough to fill the entire muffin pan.
Yes, use gluten free biscuit dough to make this recipe gluten free.
